ABOUT

Together in Kyoto
With the sensitivity characteristic of the people and communities of Kyoto ...
We will develop and grow into the future through the Kyoto International Film and Art Festival.
At the Festival, we will create together the future of films, arts, traditional crafts and new media.
Carrying on the tradition of the “Kyoto Film Festival”, the “Kyoto International Film and Art Festival” has been held three times with people from inside and outside of Kyoto.
This is thanks to the support and cooperation of everyone in Kyoto City and Kyoto Prefecture, as well as our sponsors, industry companies and other organizations.
We hope this year’s 4th “Kyoto International Film and Art Festival 2017” will be as successful as the past festivals.

With this being our fourth year, we look to remember that this festival takes place in “Kyoto, the birthplace of Japanese cinema”, by making use of the people, technologies and experiences unique to Kyoto and sharing traditional culture and entertainment to establish a new movie culture, as we further expand the reach of this film festival from Kyoto to the rest of Japan, and around the world, particularly to the Asian region.

At our first festival, we took our first steps towards the creation of a new kind of film festival, which incorporated films, art, and other forms of entertainment.
In our second year, we extended the framework of the film festival by interweaving digital forms of expression with traditional crafts and science. In the third year, the festival was enjoyed together with lovers of Kyoto in facilities representative of Kyoto, with the Opening Ceremony held at Nijo Castle and screenings held at the Kyoto National Museum and so on.

As we head into our fourth year, we look to further promote and achieve specific results as we send a message from Kyoto to the world about “Film, Art and Everything Else”.
