The original was a manga by Nobuhiro Watsuki, published as a serial in Shueisha’s “Weekly Shonen Jump”. Following this, there has been a mix of var ious forms of media, including anime and live-action films.
This film is set to a time before the television animated series when the hero Kenshin becomes “Hitokiri Battosai”, showing how his cheek came to bear a cross-shaped scar.
